What Happens to the Soul After Death?

Does the soul immediately enter heaven, remain close to loved ones, or begin an entirely different journey?

Death is one of the few experiences every person will eventually face, yet it remains one of life's greatest mysteries. We understand what happens to the physical body, but the deeper question remains: what happens to the soul?
Does it immediately rise toward heaven? Does it remain beside the body, listening as loved ones gather? Can it return to familiar places - or does it enter a spiritual world governed by karma, judgment, and laws that the living cannot see?
According to Master Hien, death is not the disappearance of a person. It is the moment the soul completely separates from the physical body and begins the next stage of its existence.
The Moment the Soul Leaves the Body
When the physical body can no longer support life, the soul leaves it completely. Master Hien explains that the soul immediately understands that death has occurred. It recognizes the body as the one it occupied during its human life, but it is no longer confined within it.
Many people imagine the soul being carried into heaven the instant a person takes their final breath. However, Master Hien teaches that this is only one possible path. In many cases, the soul remains close to the body and continues to exist near the physical world.
Although the living may no longer be able to see or speak with the person, the soul has not ceased to exist.
Death is not the end of the soul. It is the end of the soul's time inside that physical body.
The First 49 to 100 Days
According to Master Hien, a soul may remain near familiar people and places for approximately 49 to 100 days after death.
During this period, it may stay close to loved ones and observe what is happening around them. It can remain connected to the people and surroundings that were part of its human life before continuing to its next destination.
For grieving families, the thought that a loved one's soul may still be nearby can be comforting. Yet this period is not necessarily the same for every soul. Death may look similar from the human side, but within the spiritual world, each soul faces its own journey.
Some souls are allowed to remain near their families. Others are guided onward immediately. A soul's path can depend upon its karma, its spiritual destiny, and the life the person lived.
Karma Does Not End With Death
The physical body may be left behind, but the consequences of a person's actions are not.
Master Hien teaches that the soul remains connected to the karma created during its human lifetime. The kindness, harm, responsibilities, and wrongdoings of that life can influence what happens after death.
This means death does not erase spiritual responsibility. Instead, it reveals how important the choices made during life truly were.
A soul that has successfully completed its human life may be guided directly toward heaven. In that situation, Master Hien explains, there is no longer a reason for it to remain near the physical world. A soul carrying heavier karma, however, may face a much different process.
The Patrol Angels and Spiritual Judgment
Master Hien describes patrol angels who operate within the spiritual world. When a person has accumulated serious wrongdoing or increased their negative karma, these angels may "arrest" the soul after it leaves the body.
This spiritual arrest does not mean the same thing as an arrest within the human world. It means the soul is no longer free to remain near the body or spend the usual period close to loved ones. Instead, it may be taken directly to a place of judgment.
At the judgment place, the soul's actions and karma are examined. Its next destination may then be determined. Depending upon its spiritual condition, the soul may be guided toward heaven, sent to experience punishment, or prepared for another reincarnation.
Master Hien's teaching presents the spiritual world as a place of order rather than confusion. Just as the physical world has laws and consequences, the spiritual world has its own rules governing where souls may go and what they must face.
Why Are Some Souls Guided Directly to Heaven?
Not every soul needs to remain near the physical world for 49 to 100 days.
According to Master Hien, some souls are guided to heaven immediately because they have successfully passed through and completed their human life. Their journey in that body is finished, and there is no spiritual reason for them to continue lingering.
Other souls may be permitted to remain for a time, allowing them to stay near the people they loved before moving forward.
The difference is not random. Each soul carries its own history, karma, and destiny. What happens to one soul after death may therefore be entirely different from what happens to another.
Why Do Some Spirits Wander?
Some souls do not proceed directly to heaven, judgment, or reincarnation. Instead, they remain within the spiritual world as wandering spirits.
A wandering spirit has not completed the proper process of moving forward. This is different from a soul that is peacefully allowed to remain near its family for a limited period.
Master Hien also explains that within certain sorcery systems, a sorcerer may possess the spiritual power to catch a wandering soul and request it to work with him. The soul then becomes connected to that sorcerer instead of continuing naturally toward its proper destination.
This is one reason encounters with spirits cannot all be understood in the same way. A peaceful soul visiting familiar surroundings is not necessarily the same as a wandering spirit, and neither is the same as a spirit being controlled through a sorcery system.
Understanding these differences requires knowledge of the spiritual world - not simply fear of anything that cannot be explained.
Reincarnation and the Soul's Next Life
Reincarnation is one of the most important parts of the soul's journey after death.
At the place of judgment, the soul's karma may help determine whether it will reincarnate and what circumstances may await it in another life. The soul does not enter its next existence without connection to the life that came before it.
From this perspective, human life is not an isolated experience. The choices a person makes can continue to shape the soul even after the physical body is gone.
This is why the way we live matters. Every action contributes to the spiritual path we are creating - not only for the present, but possibly for what comes afterward.
Death Is a Transition, Not an Ending
Religions and spiritual traditions do not all explain death in the same way. Master Hien understands that others may hold different beliefs. What he shares comes from his own spiritual training, beliefs, and experiences with the spiritual world.
From his perspective, however, one truth remains clear: the soul continues.
It remembers the body it once occupied and remains connected to the life it lived. It may stay near those it loved, face judgment for its actions, enter heaven, wander within the spiritual world, or move toward another reincarnation.
We may spend our lives wondering what waits for us beyond death. Perhaps the more immediate question is not only where the soul will go, but what kind of journey we are preparing for it through the way we live today.
Death may close the physical chapter of a person's life, but it does not close the story of the soul.
